Julia C. Lathrop Homes
Julia C. Lathrop Homes is a historic public housing project in Chicago. Completed in 1938 by the Public Works Administration, it was one of Chicago's first public housing developments. The development features two-story brick row houses and three- and four-story apartment buildings, arranged around landscaped courtyards and connected by small archways. Designed in a mix of Prairie School, Arts and Crafts, and other styles by notable architects including Robert S. De Golyer and Hugh M.G. Garden, it stands as a testament to early 20th-century architectural innovation.
In 1959, an 8-story senior housing building was added, and in 2021, Candor had the pleasure of working on this significant project. Our contributions included installing new light fixtures, weatherproof exits, occupancy and vacant sensors, 3-way switches, and other enhancements. Lathrop Homes was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2012. We are proud to be part of such a historic place and to extend our craft to buildings that will last for generations.
